Hello October! Fall is officially here, and it’s time to sip on a pumpkin latte from Joplin Avenue Coffee Co., throw on a snuggly sweater from Blue Moon Boutique, and head downtown for all the spectacular (and spooky) things going on this month.

Did you know a bunch of new downtown businesses have opened recently or will be opening soon?

Be You-Nique Boutique, 526 S. Main, just opened in August and has all the cute clothes you need for autumn. Stop in this adorable shop to pick up trendy clothing, accessories and knick-knacks.

The Factory, 118 S. Main, opened in September and is downtown’s newest place to grab a cocktail and dance the night away.

Flicker: Bar and Arcade, 122 S. Main, is set to open in the coming weeks. Follow them on Facebook so you can find out when to grab some quarters to play classic arcade games from the ‘80s and ‘90s.

The annual North Heights Porchfest will take place just off downtown October 13 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. Mosey the streets of North Heights, and you will find 15-plus bands playing on neighborhood porches, plus food trucks and art for sale.

There are lots of opportunities to get in touch with your artistic side this month at Spiva Center for the Arts, 222 W. 3rd.

The 71st Annual Membership Show begins October 20.

The Spiva Regional Gallery is showing “Angel Brame: One Per Day, A Year of Small Decisions” until October 13. This exhibit features 365 small art pieces made over the course of 2017 by the local artist. Beginning October 20, the Regional Gallery will showcase photography by Gloria Baker Feinstein in an exhibit called “To Everything There is a Season.”

The Spiva Upstairs Gallery is showcasing “Gary Johnson and Co: People, Places and Things” by four Northwest Arkansas artists until October 30.

Spiva is teaming up with Bookhouse Cinema for the FilmSpiva 48-Hour Film Competition – Halloween Edition. Contestants will meet at Spiva’s Main Gallery at 6 pm October 12 to receive criteria and then will have 48 hours to complete a three-minute short film. The films will be screened at Bookhouse Cinema October 20 at 5:30 pm.

Connect2Culture presents “The Jazz Ambassadors of The United States Army Field Band” October 28 at Memorial Hall, 212 W. 8th St. The concert will be held from 3 pm to 4 pm.

These are just some of the exciting things going on downtown this October! Head to the heart of Joplin and make this month one you’ll never forget!
