It’s not every day you see bros in bras.

The McCune-Brooks Healthcare Foundation is hosting “Bros in Bras for a Cause” at 6:30 pm November 10 at The Woodshed, 311 S. Main St. in Carthage. This lighthearted fashion show will feature male models in themed bras designed by participating area businesses and individuals.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the foundation’s Mammogram Program.

Elizabeth Simmons, director, and Amy Grimes, director of donor relations, said they wanted to find a unique way to gather community support for a great cause.

“We support women in our area by funding mammograms when they need help paying for one,” Grimes said. “It’s important for ladies to be able to get mammograms when they need one because early detection is key to putting a stop to breast cancer.”

Several individuals and organizations have signed up to participate in the fundraiser, including Specialty Risk Insurance, Soroptimist International of Carthage, Southwest Missouri Bank and many more. Participants will decorate a bra or bras (Grimes said some organizations are doing up to three bras) and display them during October. Each organization will have a male model wear the bra in the fashion show November 10 at The Woodshed. The bras will be auctioned off at the end of the night.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun!” Simmons said. “You’ll get to see our Chamber of Commerce director and other community leaders modeling bras. It’s a creative way to deal with a difficult disease and get the community involved.”

The event will have a cash bar, appetizers and a silent auction.
