The winter blahs are soon to give way to rising temperatures, longer days, sunny afternoons, green grass, blooming flowers and a whole lot of fun stuff to do in downtown Joplin!
A great way to kick off the month is with the Downtown Joplin Alliance’s First Friday Wine Share March 1. Held in rotating downtown locations, the Wine Share is a fun and unique networking opportunity where guests bring a bottle of wine or some craft beer to share. The March Wine Share will be held at downtown Joplin’s newest bar, Flicker: Bar & Arcade, 122 S. Main. Enjoy a brew and find out who in your friend group is a secret Pac-Man wizard.
March 21 is the official first day of spring and also the first Third Thursday of the season! Head downtown with friends and family to peruse local shops and galleries, eat from a food truck or at one of our unique downtown restaurants, visit with area vendors and enjoy outdoor entertainment. You’ll definitely want to hit up our downtown shops like Blue Moon Boutique and Be-You-Nique Boutique for this year’s spring fashions.
Experience outstanding art all month long with a number of special events and exhibitions taking place at Spiva Center for the Arts, 222 W. Third St.
The national exhibition “DRAWN” will be at Spiva until March 9. It seeks to remind viewers of the basic nature and value of the drawing process while testing the boundaries of the discipline.
The collaborative exhibition “STRATA: Layered Meaning in Art” will be on display until March 16. Featuring work from eight artists, the exhibition showcases photography, painting, watercolor and sculpture.
March 23 kicks off PhotoSpiva 2019. Celebrating its 43rd year, PhotoSpiva is an exhibit of photographic excellence from artists across the country.
March 23 also kicks off Spiva’s 2019 Small Works Auction in which Spiva member artists create tiny works of art to be auctioned to raise money for Spiva operations.
