Jimmy Morgan, DO

Mercy Convenient Care

With a career in emergency medicine spanning 25 years,

Dr. Jimmy Morgan knows how to think quickly, act fast

and solve immediate problems.

In his current role as a Mercy Convenient Care physician, Dr.

Morgan and his team are always on hand to help.

“Patients start coming in early, usually as soon as we open at

7 am,” he said. “We see anywhere from 35-60 patients a day.”

That’s because Mercy Convenient Care is available to people

when they can’t get in to see their regular doctor. They can

walk in without an appointment and be seen by a health care

professional for the same cost as a visit with their regular

doctor. Mercy Convenient Care treats minor health conditions

such as coughs, colds, the flu, sore throats and more.

As Dr. Morgan said, “We’re the safety net for the populace.”

Dr. Morgan said being there for patients’ immediate needs

has always been what’s attracted him to his profession.

Before medical school, he was a paramedic in Joplin for 11

years. Life in the fast lane is what led him to the next step in

his career. He attended medical school at Oklahoma State

University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Tulsa and then

completed a residency in emergency medicine there.

Over the years, Dr. Morgan has used his expertise to assist

several EMS agencies in the area. He currently serves as the

EMS medical director for METS, Newton County Ambulance

District and Barton County Ambulance District; EMS medical

director for the fire departments in Joplin, Webb City, Carl

Junction and Redings Mill; and he is the medical liaison

for three area 911 call centers. He is also on the Disaster

Medical Team for Oklahoma, which deploys to disaster sites.

In connection with this, Dr. Morgan has previously been

deployed to the Oklahoma City bombing and the World

Trade Center terror attack.

“I like taking care of immediate needs and helping

people right away,” Dr. Morgan said. “And you could

say I thrive on controlled chaos.”
