Spotlight on Carthage

School will be out before you know it, and it will be time to get out and find all of the family fun found in Carthage. Citywide Garage Sale is back May 4. The Carthage Chamber is excited to take on this opportunity to make someone else’s overstock your treasures! See carthagechamber.com for a full map.

Make sure to support your local small businesses all year round and thank them extra for all they do the week of May 6 for Small Business Week. For more than 50 years, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year.

Carthage Community Foundation will host Give Carthage Day Tuesday, May 7. This special day of online giving and awareness is a platform to help Carthage nonprofit agency partners raise funds for either long-term sustainability funds or specific short-term projects. Visit givecarthage.org for more information.

Mark your calendars now for Food Truck Friday at Central Park May 10 to try the very best in mobile munchies from around 20 of the area’s professional food trucks. Of course, there are lots of additional opportunities for area shopping and fun. Every Wednesday and Saturday morning, stop by the north side of the historic Carthage square and stock up on delicious produce and handmade items at the farmer’s market, 7 am until it’s gone.

May 13 the Carthage Chamber of Commerce and the Carthage Emerging Leaders will host the inaugural Community Action Fair at the Fair Acres Family YMCA. Area non-profit organizations and civic clubs will be on-hand to talk about what they do, how you can donate, who can volunteer and how to get involved. May 23 the Carthage Shriners will play host to Chamber members at their train barn for an after-work opportunity for some snacks, drinks and networking.

Don’t forget, Kiddieland, the world’s largest non-profit amusement park, opens for the season on Memorial Day weekend! At only $.50 per ride, your kiddos can have tons of fun for just a little money. For more information, contact the Chamber at 417.358.2373
