The wedding day is one of the most momentous moments in a couple’s life together. It’s a time to celebrate the love they have and hope they bring to the future. Makayla and Micky Wittenmyer tied the knot November 9, 2019, and shared their happiness with family and friends at the Sterling Event Center.

The dark wood and brick accent wall speaks to the elegant and classy atmosphere at Sterling Event Center, which fit Makayla and Micky’s style perfectly.

“The atmosphere suited us well,” said Makayla. “The exposed brick feature wall and the dark wood touches were perfect for making the white flowers and greenery we used pop.”

Part of what made the ceremony perfect for the couple was that their long-time friend who had been their youth pastor performed the wedding ceremony. During the traditional ceremony, the couple recited vows they had written themselves.

Micky reflected that falling in love with Makayla has “given my life a new purpose and direction. Today is by far the happiest and proudest day of my life. Today, I get to stand in front of all of our favorite people and tell them how much I love you. I love you to the moon and back, and I can’t wait to start forever.”

Micky might have been nervous when he spoke those words, but by the time he finished, he had the whole group in happy tears.

“He blew me out of the water with his vows,” said Makayla. “I had held it together when I walked down the aisle, but after he spoke, the water works began.”

Through her tears of joy, Makayla told Micky, “You are the most incredible person I’ve ever known. I am so thankful you chose me. I love your contagious laugh and how you make me smile even when I don’t want to. Most of all, I am thankful that you are mine forever. I promise to never forget our love is a once-in-a-lifetime love.”

The love Micky and Makayla share grew for many years. They knew each other in high school but reconnected after graduation. They dated for 7 years, and when Micky popped the question, he went all out.

“We are big football fans,” said Micky. “I’m a Chiefs fan, and Makayla is a Broncos fan. So, I arranged it to have our closest friends at the Chiefs/Broncos game in Kansas City. Two of my best friends had t-shirts under their jerseys that said ‘Say yes?’ printed on them. When I stepped out of the group and got down on my knee, they lifted up the jerseys, and I asked Makayla to marry me.”

“I had no idea he was going to ask me that day to marry him,” said Makayla. “It took me a minute to know what was going on.” She said yes.

The genuine love Micky and Makayla share was evident during their wedding. From the tears and the vows to celebrating during the reception where the couple sat in front of a wall they constructed themselves of lush white silk flowers, their wedding ceremony was everything they dreamed of. With music, photos of their loved ones who have passed, and family and friends in attendance, theirs was a celebration of love forever.
